To stop you getting pregnant you need Emergency Hormonal Contraception (sometimes known as “the morning after pill”).
EHC can prevent pregnancy up to 72 hours (3 days) after unprotected sex but the longer you leave it the less effective it will be… so it’s important to act quickly!
EHC is free for young people from any pharmacy in Redbridge or Barking & Dagenham that has the EHC logo in the window.
If you had unprotected sex more than three days ago you may still be able to get an IUD to prevent pregnancy. The IUD or inter-uterine device is a form of contraception. It is available from Family planning clinics, Brook and some doctors.
40% of young people had not used contraception on at least one occasion because they were under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
If you’ve had unprotected sex – whatever the reason – got to the nearest EHC pharmacist for advice.
